Expert League: Inside Out

September 11th, 2008 by John Huss

The Fantasy College Football Invitational has gone thru it’s first 2 games and I find myself comparing my role to the movie The Inside Man.  Here I am, on the inside, surrounded by all this fantasy college football wealth.  The whole time, no one suspects I’m masterminding a plot to take this wealth of information and slip it to you (just part of it…the rest is all mine).  Sssshhh.

The league is split into two divisions:

[TABLE=19]

[TABLE=20]

So far, the records match up with the point totals as the top 4 scoring teams all stand undefeated.  The biggest slights are CBSSports.com and CFFInsider, who have point totals that show a better team than their 0-2 records.  Of course, the standings are mainly just good for entertainment value.  However, now I will go over some of the roster reconstruction that has taken place by our experts.

Starting with the home team, Drew Smith from FCB has found himself scouring the waiver wire to make adjustments.  So far, that has resulted in the need to cut his #2 and #3 picks.  Over the weekend, he found out that he lost his top RB, Luke Lipponcott to knee injury.  He was able to change him out for RB Jacquizz Rodgers of Oregon St., which is a pretty nice grab.  Also, shortly after the draft, Drew got news that Justin Willis got beat out for the starting QB job at SMU.  Drew moved quickly and picked up Hunter Cantwell from Louisville.  That’s when he learned that the one thing that Hunter can’t do well is pass.  That prompted him to let him go and now has on his roster a QB from my recent Feast or Famine article, Joe Webb of UAB.

One team that has grabbed some of the hottest names off the waiver wire is Rotoworld.com.  RB Shun White…added.  RB Donald Brown…added.  QB Juice Williams…added.  The first two names didn’t surprise me as being available for pickup since neither was ranked in the preseason.  However, I was surprised to see that Juice Williams was not drafted in a 14 team, 19 round draft.

Other noted pick ups have been RB Derrick Washington and RB Nic Grigsby by Rotowire.com.  The team was already stacked at RB with Knowshon Moreno and Ryan Matthews.    PreProSports was quick to pickup RB Kendall Hunter and RB Da’Rel Scott.

Next week, we’ll see at least one of the undefeated fall off the horse as Fantasycollegeblitz.com faces Rotowire.com.  On the flip side of that coin, one team will get their first W and one team will be one more step down the basement as Rotoworld.com faces CFFInsider.
