Expert League Playoff Results
By John Huss | November 19, 2008
The first round of the Fantasy College Football Invitational played out a key point that all fantasy owners (regardless of sport) need to remember. During the season, many owners will despair because they are not satisfied with their place in the standings. They judge their team and give up way too early. However, in fantasy football, the main objective is not to have the best record. The main focus should always be to simply make the playoffs. Once there, anything can happen…just like the old saying goes "That’s why they play the games".
In the first round, we saw two favorites knocked out by lower seeds. In one case, it wasn’t just a low seed…it was a team that squeaked into the playoffs with a losing record. Now bear in mind, even though CFFInsider had a losing record, the team scored almost as many points during the season as the #2 seed FantasyCollegeBlitz.
Speaking of FCB, our team came up short this season. Unfortunately, we lost a tough match with CBSSportsline (145 to 142). Some bad luck came our way in the form of a bye week for Michael Crabtree, a late suspension to Aldrick Robinson and a hurt Kerry Meier. Under normal circumstances, those guys cover the 3 point deficit and then some. However, excuses are easy to find the day after. CBS didn’t need any excuses and their well balanced attack advances to the semi-finals to play Athlon/PFS. Athlon easily took down Rivals.com 164 to 117.
Fighting thru the bye week blues, Rotowire.com was able to survive its first round game despite Sam Bradford, Casey Fitzgerald and James Casey all on the bench. That’s alot of fire power to have missing from your lineup. However, Fanball.com wasn’t able to pull off the upset as the final score was 136 to 123. For the second year in a row, our pal Jason Collette takes the fall to our other pal Jeff Erickson. Sadly, we might need to line up a psychologist for Jason. Then again, he did well in Tout Wars so maybe we shouldn’t cry tears for him afterall.
Semi-final games this week:
Rotowire.com vs CFFInsider
Athlon/PFS vs CBSSportsline
Check back next week as we recap the games and reveal the Championship Game.
