FCB Top 25 Fantasy Teams
By Louis Papa | September 6, 2008
Attention all FCB readers and Forum members, the greatest debate in college football continues. No, it’s not whether or not the NCAA should adopt a playoff system. Rather, it is who is the best fantasy football team. I am honored and humbled to collaborate with the founders of Fantasy College Blitz on this new weekly endeavor which we hope you will find entertaining but debatable.
Before we will reveal the results, let me share with you how we plan to construct our weekly poll. As all of you know, the AP and the Coaches put out a weekly poll ranking the Top 25 “best” college football teams along with several “also mentioned” teams that are on the outside looking to break into this elite list.
Well, it should be noted that Vince Mullins, Drew Smith, John Huss and Daniel Freer began constructing this site to bring attention to the best sporting season on earth while providing an entertainment outlet that up till now the NFL has dominated. I think you would all agree that these 4 gentlemen along with their outstanding writing staff have been delivering this service to their readers in a format that keeps you coming back and wanting to join in. As with the real Top 25 Poll, we’re positive you will have some different takes on who should be ranked where - that’s the beauty of college football.
The Criteria: With the assistance of Mr. Huss’ fiance, I was able to put a together a table after polling the six most senior writers of the FCB site. Their opinions were primarily focused on the offensive side of the ball and allowed each writer to scan presumed starters at each skill position, including the kicker. After compiling statistics from last year (God bless you Paul Smith and company for one of the finest top to bottom statistical seasons ever produced by a 1-A team), combining those with the FCB Cheat Sheets and using some old fashion opinion/ingenuity, we present to you……the most comprehensive look at the TOP 25 FANTASY FOOTBALL TEAMS IN 2008 (After Week 1).

Points were awarded with 25 points going to a 1st place vote all the way down to 1 point for a 25th place vote. Bear in mind that fantasy expectations for a team like Hawaii are still positive and despite the loss to a powerful Florida team, they remain in the mix. Some notable teams that didn’t make the first cut: FAU, USC, Texas, Kansas St., USF
Of course, since this poll was compiled by writers from this site, it would be like the fantasy version of the AP Poll. What about the Coaches Poll? That’s were the Blitz Forum comes into play. This is your way to sound off and rank your top 25 Fantasy Teams as fantasy coaches. We look forward to seeing other rankings and ideally we’ll get enough activity to create a fantasy Top 25 Coaches Poll.
Lastly, as many of our passionate fantasy college blitzer’s may already know, this is worth repeating. In 2007, the Tulsa Golden Hurricane produced the first ever 5,000 yard passer, 1,000 rusher and three 1,000 yard receivers in one season. If it were not for that traitor Chad Henne (committing and then reneging on Penn State), senior QB Paul Smith of the Golden Hurricane would have attended Penn State. Yes, I am bitter after two years of Anthony Morrelli.
