FROM THE SHOTGUN…Week Ten QB Prime-Time/Pine-Time

October 27th, 2008 by Daniel Freer

Is your fantasy team still here?

Or, have they cleaned out their lockers, looking ahead to 2009?

No matter where your team is at in your league standings…you gotta keep playing.  You got playoffs to win…playoffs to qualify for…or spoiling the playoff bid of your opponent.

No time to quit, now…

Week Ten is an interesting one.  A number of FBS schools are off this week, but, it will not have too much affect on the top QBs.  However, keep an eye on top RBs and WRs who may be off this week…pay special attention to our RB and WR articles this week.  Hint, Hint…

Smith and Mullins, along with Mr. Huss, are going to be busy this week.

Nevertheless, we still have a QB article to do.  And, if you still can grab a free agent or supplemental pick, check out UAB QB Joseph Webb (pictured, thanks IconSMI)

PLAYOFF RUN PRIME-TIME QBs:

COLT McCOY (Texas) vs GRAHAM HARRELL (Texas Tech):  Oh, this will be a dandy…and credit Harrell and his Red Raiders for not looking ahead to this one…after what they did to Kansas last week.  This is the game that makes you appreciate the creation of the “forward pass” rule some years ago.

SAM BRADFORD (Oklahoma) vs JOE GANZ (Nebraska):  The first one is an obvious one, but I also like Ganz, because the Huskers will need to shoot it out with the Sooners to beat them.  Lots of offense predicted for this one

JOSH FREEMAN (Kansas State) vs TODD REESING (Kansas):  Both teams smarting after last week’s home beat-downs, so look for a ton of offense and lots of points from both these QBs and teams.

CHASE CLEMENT (Rice) vs TREVOR VITTATOE (UTEP):  And your weekly CUSA shoot-out, courtesy of the El Paso Chamber of Commerce.  Clement has been blowing up all season, and few have had a better five-game stretch than Vittatoe.  First one to play some defense, wins.

JOSEPH WEBB (UAB) vs Southern Miss:  UAB may not be sweet in the won-loss column, but Webb is one of those dual-threat QBs who can produce on a weak defense…and USM has that weak defense.  And, its no fun for a weak defense to have to tackle this large and agile QB.

KELLEN MOORE (Boise State) vs New Mexico State:  The Broncos are on a roll, and this frosh QB is now the heart-and-soul of the innovative BSU offense.  He was effective last week on a good San Jose State defense, he may just go beserk on the Aggie defense.

MICHAEL DESORMEAUX (Louisiana-Lafayette) vs Florida International:  The super-mobile QB, who leads the nation’s best rushing attack, should find ways to dissect FIUs Golden Panthers, via ground or air.  Call him “DesEx”?

OTHER PRIME-TIME QBs:  CHASE DANIEL, Missouri; MARK SANCHEZ, USC; MAX HALL, BYU; TIM HILLER, Western Michigan; ZAC ROBINSON, Oklahoma State; DAVID JOHNSON, Tulsa; JUICE WILLIAMS, Illinois; ADAM WEBER, Minnesota.

ON THE BUBBLE “MAYBE” QBs:

TIM TEBOW (Florida) and MATT STAFFORD (Georgia):  Hey, both these guys love playing LSU, but look for this World’s Largest Cocktail Party to be won without the top QBs producing too much.  Both the Gators and Dawgs have other weapons, and will need those other weapons to win the game

JEVAN SNEAD (Ole Miss) vs Auburn:  The Countdown Clock may be nearing the end for Tiger coach Tommy Tuberville, but, the Plainsmen do have a good defense, still.  Snead is a good QB, but not that good vs the AU D.

DAN LeFEVOUR (Central Michigan) vs Indiana:  This is a game that CMU can win, but, the Hoosiers have played better defense of late…much better defense than when they faced CMUs MAC-rival Ball State earlier this season.

ROBERT GRIFFIN (Baylor) vs Missouri:  Griffin, outside of Waco, seems to struggle, especially against the better Big XII teams.  Mizzou still has the inside track to the Big XII North title, and will not let up now.

THE “START UP THE TEAM BUS” PINE-TIME QBs:

C.J. BACHER (Northwestern) vs Minnesota:  Quietly, the Minnesota Gophers defense has become one of the better ones in the Big Ten…no kidding.  With that nice record, the Metrodome is going to be quite moisy for Bacher this weekend.

CHASE HOLBROOK (New Mexico State) vs Boise State:  One of the biggest surprises has been the disappearnce, at times, of the NMSU Aggie offense.  Last week, the Aggies scored 14 on Idaho…and their Gem State rival Boise State have a way, way, way better defense.

NOTABLES OFF THIS WEEK:  CASE KEENUM, Houston; TERRELLE PRYOR, Ohio State; COLIN KAEPERNICK, Nevada; NATE DAVIS, Ball State; WILLIE TUITAMA, Arizona.
