GOING DEEP: Start Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers on Friday
By Vince Mullins | October 30, 2008
Before I dig in to the yummy Halloween treats of Week 10 of the fantasy college football season, I want to throw out a bunch of quotes from the Huss Bachelor Party of Vegas Proportions:
We don’t have Bud Light Lime, we have Bud Light Lime….I love this horse Curlin, he’s a lock! Big favorite! Run the trifecta with him to win!….Crap, I still need to bet $5 for the college football contest? OK, guess I will just do a parlay for the night games - lemme see, Bama, Oregon and WTF lets go with Notre Dame…There is no such German name as Sharon…and Sunny and Sky of the Vegan Vixens, great to meet you.
OK on to the games - let us shake up the permastarters..
Mike Crabtree, TT vs Texas (BlitzIndex #33) - Crabtree plays every week unless that ankle gets worse. He is like the Special Dark mini Hersheys bar in the treat bag. Crabtree is a gamer par excellence and he is leading the nation in TD this month. Play him but check back for the Saturday Morning College Football Breakfast Burrito for late injury updates. Remember he is a 8PM kickoff so I might suggest you pick up Lyle Leong for insurance, or if you prefer ECU (remember them?) has a playmaker named Dwayne Harris playing on Sunday that may suffice for a last minute adjustment.
Austin Collie, BYU at Colorado State (106) start of the week for the national leader in receiving yards per game. Ok, he is the white chocolate, there, I said it.
Jeremy Maclin, Missouri at Baylor (65) - Tigers brought a whoopin last week, look for it again in conference. Mr. Goodbar in the house!
Jarett Dillard, Rice at UTEP (115) - this one has all the making of a score fest as both teams excel at two things - offense, and waiting to play offense. Vegas says 77.5, I say both teams score in the 50s. Dillard, our homemade caramel apple, should add 3 or 4 TD to his career record.
Dez Bryant, Oklahoma State hosts Iowa State (102) - I bet the Pokes are angry at two things 1) narrow loss to Texas and 2) Boone Pickens was late with his most recent charitable payment. Boone stepped up with a fresh $63 million, Pokes will likely take that much out of the Cyclones’ ass to reassert themselves.
Chris Williams, NMSU hosts Boise (4) - tuf defensive matchup, but Williams has to pick up slack with an injured Marcus Anderson. My playoff life depends on him, and Aggies play much better at home - check with me around 8pm to see if I am in a fetal position.
Eric Decker, Minnesota hosts Northwestern (34) - I am expecting a defensive battle but Decker is the Gopher offense and is in the top five in yards from scrimmage for WRs. He is getting lots of love up north for his hands and his attitude.
Percy Harvin, Florida vs. Georgia (43) - “Well I went to a cocktail party, to reminisce with my old friends”. Gators are what is great about America - all the talent in the world, consistent greatness, simple uniforms, and just the right amount of arrogance. Georgia is just outside the top quartile of defense rankings but will Demps and Rainey get all the big plays? Can Percy stay healthy? Per the Swamp Things blog, Percival Harvinator averages 140 yards and a touchdown in his last 11 “big games.”…
Brennan Marion, Tulsa at Arkansas (106) - degenerates will look twice at the Golden Ones as a TD favorite on the road versus an SEC foe, but the fantasy community recognizes this as a likely result. Marion is just a bit more volatile than NT’s Casey Fitzgerald. Razorbacks are easy to run on, hence the less than 200 ypg allowed thru the air. Also, Casey Dick at the helm leaves opponents with short fields and that is a great mix for Marion. Coach Petrino knows what is coming…
Casey Fitzgerald, North Texas at Western Kentucky (74) - October’s second best WR for yards per game (Jernigan of Troy is #1) should go over the Hilltoppers repeatedly. Could this be the Mean Green first win of the year?
Brandon Banks, Kansas State vs. Kansas (72) - Jayhawks have stopped no one, Banks has been quiet after a hot start and is ready to roll after a nice game against Sooners.
James Casey, Rice at UTEP (115) - did you know he leads all non-running backs in yards from scrimmage per game this year? He may be the most valuable player among the mid-major conferences.
Jamarko Simmons, Western Michigan host EMU (113) 0 great matchup for the plus-size WR. Did you know that WMU scores have gone over in six of 7 lined games? I credit the D more than the O, but QB Tim Hiller is 4th in TD (25) and sixth in yards (314) and Simmons has only grabbed 6 of them. Expect all the numbers to get padded here.
Emmanuel Sanders and Aldrick Robinson, SMU idle - Aldrick stands second in the land in yards per game, UAB is almost worst in the nation allowing 6.98 yards per play. SMU will love the homecoming versus Memphis after getting sloshed at Navy.
SIT
Mark Hafner, TE/WR Houston at Marshall (65)- I predict he will continue to be scoreless for October and his teammate will break a leg (OUCH!). It is like I can tell the future…
Eron Riley, Duke at Wake Forest (18) - at least Eron will look good…if you factor out Navy, the Demon Defense allows 205 yards passing and just over one TD a game. Almost tie for hoops…
Anyone in Bobby Dodd Stadium - Georgia Tech (5) hosts Florida State (18) in a battle of Top 20 defenses. Neither Greg Carr of the Seminoles nor Demaryius Thomas of the YellowJackets can be called consistent despite looking like something that Gary and Wyatt would build if they were to build a WR instead of the perfect woman. Sit them both in a game driven by running backs and defense.
Finally, this weekend I will be posting pictures of the Mullins Family College Football Tree, celebrating our favorite teams but mostly Oklahoma State. It’s our creation, from our heart and from our hands, why cant people understand our intentions?
