Head2Head Tips: Stars on Sale

October 22nd, 2008 by Vince Mullins

Ohio State running back Chris WellsHead2HeadSports.com’s College Football Salary Cap Game made many changes to their salary structure this week to adjust for underperformance – lucky for you I am here to show you there are some bargains to be had.

At first I thought it was a sign of the times that there were no players getting raises, but their marketing guru Nikki reminded me that would be unfair to those of you who have locked in early values on fantasy studs like Sam Bradford and most notably Josh Freeman and do not want to spend any cash on lineup adjustments.

Harumph to those of you.

Here are the largest changes, the bargain bin. There are some stud RBs in particular that you should look at now:

Top Salary Changes, October 20

ID    Name    Position    Team    Old    New    Diff
214    Adams, Josh    R    Wake Forest    $13.5    $7.5    (6.00)
211    Dixon, Anthony    R    Mississippi St.    $14.3    $8.4    (5.90)
206    Foster, Arian    R    Tennessee    $15.2    $9.5    (5.70)
203    McCoy, LeSean    R    Pitt    $15.8    $11.2    (4.60)
204    Murray, DeMarco    R    Oklahoma    $15.6    $11.0    (4.60)
411    Britt, Kenny    W    Rutgers    $11.1    $6.5    (4.60)
207    Lucky, Marlon    R    Nebraska    $15.1    $10.7    (4.40)
208    Divine, Noel    R    West Virgina    $14.9    $10.5    (4.40)
417    Underwood, Tiquan    W    Rutgers    $9.9    $5.5    (4.40)
808    Rutgers    D    Rutgers    $13.7    $9.5    (4.20)
201    Wells, Chris    R    Ohio St.    $16.5    $12.5    (4.00)
405    Kelly, Aaron    W    Clemson    $12.2    $8.2    (4.00)
803    LSU    D    LSU    $14.1    $10.1    (4.00)
212    Davis, James    R    Clemson    $14.1    $10.2    (3.90)
216    Rainey, Chris    R    Florida    $12.9    $9.0    (3.90)
219    Herring, Keegan    R    Arizona St.    $11.9    $8.0    (3.90)
209    Dwyer, Jonathan    R    Georgia Tech    $14.6    $11.0    (3.60)

All salary changes here.

Now Josh Adams isn’t even on milk cartons in Winston-Salem anymore, his price could undercut a latte at the Daily Grind and it would affect no ones roster. But do keep a keen eye on the newly healthy Chris Wells of Ohio State (pre-season Heisman #2), Noel Devine can score from anywhere and may need to with Pat White dealing with head injuries (did you know that WVU is under the number in a ll five lined games?), LeSean McCoy is still a stud, and James Davis may pick up his performance with injuries to CJ Spiller and a new coach at the helm.

Structurally now, I like the idea of fitting in a QB at the flex position (hat tip to Topher), especially with the new discounts at other positions allowing more dollars for the top H2H position weight.

Matchups of interest

Traditionally Georgia at LSU would excite the fans of defense around the SEC, but neither rates in the top quartile of all defenses on my exclusive BlitzIndex system. Knowshon Moreno just got marked down a couple bucks, love that play this week.

Cal visits the 90th ranked UCLA defense, but electric RB Jahvid Best is still recovering from a dislocated elbow. If healthy Best would be a great option at $2.50 off at $9.70.

My new favorite value pick (and as a Gator alum this kills me) is FSU RB Antone Smith. The entire state has waited for years for this kid (and the entire Seminole offense) to find its rhythm, and Smith has 8 TD in his last three games including the squall conditions against Miami (FL). Just $7.30!!!

Kansas State hosts the offensive savants of Oklahoma – while the Sooners eschew the run (see DeMarco Murray’s price cut) the pass offense is clicking at a Top 3 rate in the nation and should go nuts on the Wildcats #91 defense. Mind WR Manuel Johnson’s injury, keep focusing on TE Jermain Gresham and WR Juaquin “Hero” Iglesias new sale price.

As a matter of opinion, I will just play the entire Sooner state.

Head2Head Sports

Putting all this together, here is the Vinsanity lineup for this weekend (I really wanted the Northwestern defense but couldn’t afford them with the 2 QB).

Freeman, Josh  - $12.9 135 Q Kansas St. vs. Oklahoma
Wells, Chris -  $12.5 201 R Ohio St. vs. Penn St.
Smith, Antone  - $7.3 238 R Florida St. vs. Virginia Tech
Washington, D -  $10.0 260 R Missouri vs. Colorado
Iglesias, J  - $10.8 406 W Oklahoma @ Kansas St.
Bryant, Dez  -  $11.2 410 W Oklahoma St. @ Texas
Gresham, J  - $4.7 449 W Oklahoma @ Kansas St.
Walsh, Blair  - $4.5 720 K Georgia @ LSU
Iowa St.  - $8.3 862 D Iowa St. vs. Texas A&M
Bradford, Sam -  $17.8 105 Flex Oklahoma @Kansas St.

PS – if Dez Bryant goes over 100 yards and gets a couple scores on Texas this weekend, can we al just recognize that he needs early 2009 Heisman hype? Thank you.

Final note: H2H will add a pre-paid trade for every player you have on your roster from Auburn and West Virginia. These schools play Thursday, so please use your pre-paid trades to swap them out. Of course, if you have any Auburn players on your roster at all you should check yourself and examine another hobby.
