Joe Montana’s Son a Huskie

June 11th, 2009 by John Huss

Much like other son’s of football QB legends, Nick Montana will have to fight hard to get out from under the shadow. The headline for this article, much like the other ones out there, don’t mention him by his name- they only refer to the son of Joe Montana.  That my friends, is a lot of pressure.

Some son’s have advanced past that pressure and succeeded in the NFL, such as the Manning brothers.   Or grinded out a career in the NFL such as Brian Griese.  Others have decided the weight of their father’s shoulder pads were a bit heavy, a la Jack Elway. However,  Nick Montana will have a chance to jump start the next chapter of Huskie football under new Head Coach Steve Sarkisian.  Many Washington faithful are hoping that Sarkisian brought some of that magic QB dust from the USC cupboards and will splash a heavy dose of it on Nick Montana.   This is finally Nick’s chance to be a star and create a name for himself.

From a fantasy standpoint, don’t expect worthwhile stats till his second year under center.  Those in dynasty leagues (hey Vince…hint hint for your draft in the NCAA Project), this is an interesting pick to stash away.

We believe Nick has made a very good decision for himself.  Imagine that…potential fame based on his own talent and not because he shares the same last name as that other Montana.

  1. with Jake Locker getting drafted again by the Los Angeles Angels OA, Nick might be at the helm sooner than we think.
