Mark Ingram Leads HeismanPundit.com 2010 Preseason Heisman Poll
August 30th, 2010 by Vince Mullins
Alabama’s Mark Ingram starts the 2010 season right where he left off in 2009–on top of the Heismanpundit.com Heisman Poll.
The junior incumbent Heisman winner grabbed 6 first-place votes and totaled 26 points to take the top spot in this year’s preseason edition of the survey. He holds a solid lead over Ohio State junior quarterback Terrelle Pryor, who received 2 first place votes and 18 points overall.
Boise State junior quarterback Kellen Moore was third with 12 points (2 first-place votes), while Oregon State junior running back Jacquizz Rodgers (6 points, 2 first-place votes) was fourth. Houston senior quarterback Case Keenum and Arkansas junior quarterback Ryan Mallett tied for fifth (4 points).
Also garnering support was Virginia Tech sophomore running back Ryan Williams (3 points), Pitt sophomore running back Dion Lewis (2 points), plus Washington senior quarterback Jake Locker, Wisconsin junior running back John Clay and Notre Dame junior wide receiver Michael Floyd (1 point each).
The HeismanPundit.com Heisman Poll is made up of 13 Heisman voters from across the country. They vote for three players each week during the college football season. Tabulations are made on a 3-2-1 basis, with three points awarded for a first-place vote, two points for a second-place vote and one point for a third-place vote. The past two years, the Heismanpundit poll–now in its fifth season–was the most accurate in the country, picking five of the top six finishers in the Heisman vote in 2008 and the top four in 2009.
Members of the panel include: Mike Bianchi of the Orlando Sentinel, Teddy Greenstein and Brian Hamilton of the Chicago Tribune, Olin Buchanan and Tom Dienhart of Rivals.com, Jenni Carlson of The Oklahoman, Bruce Feldman of ESPN.com, J.B. Morris of ESPN the Magazine, Austin Murphy, B.J. Schecter and Stewart Mandel of Sports Illustrated, plus Dick Weiss of the New York Daily News.
Chris Huston, owner and publisher of Heismanpundit.com, coordinates and also votes in the weekly poll, which will be released every Tuesday during the season.
