New Mexico Bowl Preview-Fresno State (8-4) vs. Wyoming (6-6)
Game Info
December 19th, 4:30pm, Albuquerque, New Mexico
Game Background
Fresno State and Wyoming have combined to beat one team; yes, one team this season in the FBS with a winning record. Fresno State comes into this game with a little momentum following a thrilling road victory against Illinois out of the Big 10. Wyoming on the other hand struggled down the stretch going 2-3 in their last five games.
Fresno State #21 Ryan Matthews (thanks Icon SMI)
Only one answer here and that is star tailback Ryan Mathews, who finished 2nd in the country in rushing with 1,664 yards despite playing one less game then Toby Gerhart. Mathews also scored 17 touchdowns and has been an impact player for the Bulldogs for years. He should run wild and find the end zone early and often against the Cowboys.
Wyoming Player to Watch
David Leonard is the Cowboys leading receiver with 70 catches, which is 46 more then anyone else on the team. But the Cowboys struggles are evident in that Leonard, despite gaining 645 yards only scored once in 2009. If the Cowboys are to keep this game close, Leonard will have to make some big plays.
What Will Happen
Fresno State has more talent. They have more skilled position impact players, have big game bowl experience, a coach that can win the big game and the motivation of a senior to make one lasting impression before the NFL Draft. Fresno State wins big 34-13.
