QB UPDATE 08/27/08

Keeping them guessing until opening day…that’s our NCAA football coaches!

Some interesting changes in the past 24-48 hours, including Vanderbilt naming former starter Chris Nickson (pictured, thanks IconSMI ) as their opening day starter when the Commodores open the 2008 season at Miami, Ohio on Saturday.

This was not the only QB change that took place:

NAVY:

Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada will miss the Middies opener vs Towson on Saturday due to a hamstring problem. Jarod Bryant will start in his place. Bryant is a good option QB and may not be a bad free-agent pick up until Kaipo-Noa is ready to play.

VIRGINIA TECH:

Sean Glennon was named the starter for the Hokies in 2008, while Tyrod Taylor, who played much as a true-frosh last season, could be red-shirted. Glennon has impressed in pre-season workouts, and it appears that Frank Beamer and his staff want to preserve a full-year of eligibility for Taylor, which would give him three eligible seasons left.

INDIANA:

He may be out of the doghouse and back into the penthouse…Kellen Lewis was named the starter for the Hoosiers this week. Lewis was suspended for the spring and his position as starter was in doubt due to the improvement of Ben Chappell.

USC:

Mark Sanchez will start on Saturday vs Virginia. His knee is healthy enough, according to the USC staff, and was cleared to play. The real news may be that Aaron Corp was named the #2 QB, ahead of celebrated Arkansas transfer Mitch Mustain, the former starter for the Razorbacks.

Penn State:

Penn State names Darryl Clark starting QB for week 1. Pat Devlin will not red-shirt and should see action. While this matter has been resolved it does not add any fantasy value or consideration to late drafts at this point.
