Saturday Morning College Football Breakfast Burrito, Week 7
By Vince Mullins | October 11, 2008
With Jason Roberts eponymous notes from around the nation, you need no other resource to feel confident of your information advantage.
I will focus on weather and injuries - and another great rap joint, BOY-EEEE. [falv'd]
WEATHER
Boise is having its earliest snow on record, thankfully they are playing in Hattiesburg, MS versus the Golden Eagles. Major snowstorm in the Northwest.
Weather.com has a wrapup of all the games here - two games stand out as Texas Tech hosts Nebraska but there is a 40% chance of precipitation, and Utah visits Wyoming where altitude and snow could slow down the Utes.
Sustained winds of 20 to 40 mph are possible from New Mexico, Arizona, and California northward to Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana. Gusts could exceed 70 mph in a few locations.
INJURIES, Agenda-free
Wisky TE Garret Graham upgraded to probable after two weeks out with ankle issues.
West Virginia QB Pat White has not practiced this week, but is considered probable at Syracuse (Note: I sat him for Kellen Moore in the NCAA Project mega-league). Likely out per ESPN. Head and thumb injuries have slowed him recently, and I would not be shocked if we heard Jarrett brown start the whole game against the hapless Orange.
BIG question mark around Florida Flex Percy Harvin - ankle injury kept him from a couple practices, but it seems he is available after practicing Friday. You owe it to yourself to monitor any resource necessary to ensure he is playing for the 8pm kickoff.
A mild ankle sprain limited UTEP QB Trevor Vittatoe practice time as he prepares for Tulane.
I saw Troy QB Jamie Hampton play at Oklahoma State and I was impressed, but he left Tuesday Night with a knee injury and is out for the season with an ACL injury (Will Carroll taught me how to diagnose this from simply watching TV). You will need a new fantasy backup, and remember him for 2009.
Permastarter SMU WR Emmanuel Sanders left the UCF game with an ankle sprain, but is listed at top of depth chart for the Tulsa tilt.
Permastarter CMU WR Bryan Anderson still questionable with shoulder injury for the Temple game, he did not see the field after being listed similarly for Buffalo. Likely a sit.
Despite missing the last two games with hammy issues, WR Jordan Norwood leads Nittanies in receiving and is expected to play.
Lobo RB Rodney Ferguson listed as probable for BYU game after no-show last week due to shoulder injury.
Kent RB Eugene Jarvis has confirmed a Level 1 sprain but practiced most of the week and is probable for the Ohio game. Knowing coach Doug Martin plays things close, I would say he get limited action at best.
Couple of Fresno stars are still hurting for the mismatch against Idaho - TE Bear Pascoe is questionable (ankle), RB Ryan Mathews probable (knee). Mathews’ 21st birthday party was a bust, but the nerve damage in his knee will likely keep him out against lowly Idaho.
Final thoughts
how good will Auburn RB Ben Tate be in the new offensive system? I would imagine quite good. The firing of Tony Franklin was no more than a sacrifice for the boosters/fans as they never fully implemented his system - I guarantee he shows up somewhere soon with immediate positive impact.
Drop the Texas defense immediately - no need to hold a team with the murderer’s row of Big 12 offense they will face over the next six weeks no matter how good they are.
I am going head over heart this week - OSU Zac Robinson gets vicious pine as Baylor’s Robert Griffin gets the starting nod on two of my teams as Bears face Iowa State.
and you know I love the rap tunes that the kool kidz are jamming…couple weeks ago it was Georgia Tech, this week the surging Wildcats of Northwestern.
