College Football Breakfast Burrito, Week 10

Saturday, November 7th, 2009

Since it is obviously Saturday Morning I feel it is finally time to shorten the title of this series. Same great fillings in a lower-fat wrapper…today I am going with Smoked salmon with my egg burrito after an early workout. Protein in full effect.

Weather

burritoWow is it ugly in the Pacific Northwest – feel blessed that your Boise State Broncos were in Ruston, LA last night tearing it up rather than dealing with the nastiness on the Blue Turf. 25-foot wave off the Oregon Coast and rain-rain-rain. Luckily Oregon travels to Stanford so load up on those flying-high Ducks. Here is the full Top 25 breakdown on Weather.com.

The 30 MPH winds around the Rockies will impact the TAMU-CU game in Boulder CO and also at the highest-altitude field in the land where BYU visits Wyoming’s War Memorial. Both kickoff around 2pm ET/12pm MT so think about how this will affect stars like Jerrod Johnson and Max Hall. Fresno at Idaho is inside the Kibbie Dome so no worries tonight. As of 9am ET the wind only showed at 10MPH but it could spike. Otherwise georgeous weather so focus on the matchups.

QUICK SOCIAL COMMENTARY

News of mass shootings hit close to home this week – I had two friends in the Orlando building and thankfully neither were victims. Prayers go out to those who were victims. The point I want to drive home is that it is tough out there for a lot of Americans – almost 1 in 5 are unemployed or just given up looking for work and the worst of that stress showed itself yesterday. I ask you to do two things at the risk of allowing you your respite from the real world here in fantasy land:

  • Get involved in your community through whatever means you can to help those less fortunate – the social unrest isn’t likely to get any better for awhile and if you are able to help please consider doing so. If money is a problem for you, your time and assistance at your local church or non-profit often is of more use.
  • Invite a couple friends over to watch the football games – I know that they may not understand why you have so much emotionally invested in the Navy-Notre Dame Game (Dobbs-Clausen matchup should be awesome) or Arizona-Washington State (Nick Foles is hotter than McDonald coffee at QB for the Wildcats) but I know I am guilty of holing up on the weekends and imagine some of you are also. When things get tough all you have is the support of family and friends – keep them close.

OK on to the Start-sit, gratutitous glamour shot of a USC fan and the rest of the latest news after the jump.

Saturday Morning College Football Breakfast Burrito

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

burritoWhile Vince Mullins is away at sea, Daniel Freer will prepare this morning’s Fantasy College Blitz Saturday Morning Breakfast Burrito.  Hopefully, he will make a better burrito than last week.  His burrito last week was somewhere between the Penn State offense and the Florida State offense from September 26th.

Can you believe it…it is already Week Five!

It is near half-way through the college football season….and definitely half-way through your fantasy league regular season.

I mean, it was like, gee…only a few hours ago when the first game kicked off!  My, how times flies…it’s like you just opened that first beer….grilled your first rib….deep fried your first turkey….drafted that first bust of a player…. Read the rest of this entry →

Saturday Morning College Football Breakfast Burrito, Week 3

Saturday, September 19th, 2009

All the latest delicious info and insight wrapped up tight for you so you can set that lineup and get to the tailgate on time.

From Weather.com College Football forecast – A tropical atmosphere will remain over the Deep South and Tennessee valley through the weekend. Scattered thunderstorms will also impact Florida. Meanwhile, most of the southern Plains will be dry.

Showers very likely in Seattle and Tuscaloosa – plus autumn is in full effect with temps in the 40s in Michigan.

Before we get started, the bar was set high for the fantasy player of the week on Friday Night – Ryan Mathews got stupid on Boise last night career high 234 yards and three touchdowns (each 60+ yards) in a 51-34 loss to Boise State on Friday. Per ESPN, only 12 players had three 60+ Housecalls FOR ALL OF 2008.  Your move, Tim Tebow and Zac Robinson.

Saturday Morning College Football Breakfast Burrito, Week 2 2009

Saturday, September 12th, 2009

Wrapping up the week that was along with late updates, all in one nice delicious package…

Toledos Aaron Opelt breaks through the Colorado defense en route to a 61-yard TD in the fourth quarter (thanks, Toledo Blade)

Toledo’s Aaron Opelt breaks through the Colorado defense en route to a 61-yard TD in the fourth quarter (thanks, Toledo Blade)

I am ready to go out on the limb and anoint Toledo and QB Aaron Opelt as this season’s breakout performers after rewatching their 54-38 beatdown of the Buffs.

NASA hopes their rockets work this well.

I know that Colorado is subpar defensively even for the Big 12, but veteran coach and ESPN sideline reporter Bob Davie said that Toledo had the speed edge? That is an amazing statement. I knew Stephen Williams was a top-shelf WR but the addition of unheralded athlete Eric Page mixed with good RBs makes the Rockets a lot of fun to watch. My scan of my six leagues shows the only consistently available free agent is K Alex Steigerwald and RB Morgan Williams who comes off suspension next week – think they are worth a shot now? Saturday Morning College Football Breakfast Burrito, Week One 2009

Saturday, September 5th, 2009

Welcome back to the Saturday morning post that wraps up all of the week’s news and adds toppings like early Saturday news updates and my caffeinated last-second analysis.

mmmm...burrito

mmmm...burrito

First of all, condolences to those of you who procured a couple of Top 5 RBs who are no longer with us – Buffalo’s James Starks (shoulder surgery) and Oregon’s LeGarrette Blount (TKO – suspension).

If only our crystal ball was a little less cloudy, we would have steered you clear. Luckily, I have neither on any of my 5 teams because of the Bull’s QB questions and the Oregon offensive-line rebuilding. One of my favorite quotes about luck from Brooklyn Dodgers executive Branch Rickey: “Luck is the residue of good design.”

The first two weeks of the season always pose a threat in fantasy prognostication, but I have been doing it for awhile now and am willing to stick my neck out. After the jump, some injury updates and fresh news. Read the rest of this entry →
