The 2009 college football season, for the fantasy crowd, is almost over. Most of your leagues are in the home stretch…fighting for playoff spots…upsetting the playoff apple-cart for your rivals….trying to keep out of the cellar….wondering why your star player early in the season has now turned into Buster McBust…
In dealing with college football QBs for Fantasy College Blitz, I have noticed that, at this time of the season, the QB position seems to produce fewer numbers….especially those at the BCS-level schools. Generally, the QBs at the BCS-level schools are playing their conference foes, and, their tougher ones as the season progresses.
Fortunately, some QBs are immune to the “end of season doldrums”. One of them, Houston QB Case Keenum (photo, thanks Scout.com), seems to put up better numbers playing against his conference foes. Read the rest of this entry →
Dion Lewis Pitt at Rutgers (needs to start scoring again)
Jacquizz Rodgers Oreg St vs. Idle
Darius Marshall Marsh at WVU (still capable of 15+ point week)
Ryan Matthews Fres vs. SJSU
Toby Gerhart Stanford at Arizona
Mark Ingram Alabama vs. South Carolina
Stat of the Week: Seth Smith from New Mexico State is 4th in rushing attempts by a running back (QB Ricky Dobbs leads the nation as a QB). Anyone who gets that many carries is going to break a 1000yards but with only 1 TD on the season who remains a spot starter at best. Read the rest of this entry →
Is the Tight End position the black hole of Fantasy College Football? In a season that seemed destined to be the year of the Tight End with players such as Jermaine Gresham, Dennis Pitta, Tony Moaeki and Rob Gronkowski being drafted extremely early in expert league drafts, most teams have been left playing TE roulette in 2009 considering how putrid the position has performed. Yet as we entered the year, who would have guessed?
Gresham was ranked as the top Tight End by 4 of the 5 experts, yet he played as many snaps this season as I did- zero. After suffering a season ending injury, Gresham was quick to make the decision that he had played his last down as a Sooner and was going to enter the NFL Draft. If that was not bad enough for owners, Gronkowski, who was ranked by many as the second best Tight End, had back surgery right before the season kicked off and never played a down for the Wildcats in 2009. Because I ran out of clever things to say beyond mis-quoting titles of 70′s TV shows, we at FCB welcome the return of Nevada QB Colin Kaepernick (photo, thanks IconSMI) after an early season of sluggish stats and no wins.
However, in Nevada’s 63-28 win over UNLV this past weekend, Kaepernick and his Wolf Pack ran all over the Rebels, with the rangy signal-caller rushing for over 170 yards and 2 TDs….and the entire Wolf Pack team rushing for over 550 yards…at over 10 yards per carry.
Nevada’s tough early schedule, with games at Notre Dame, at an improving Colorado State, and hosting Missouri…the Nevada offense just could not get going full-bore. Now, with an easier non-conference opponent, and WAC play beginning, look for Kaepernick and Nevada to return to their status as fantasy-elite.
While Vince Mullins is away at sea, Daniel Freer will prepare this morning’s Fantasy College Blitz Saturday Morning Breakfast Burrito. Hopefully, he will make a better burrito than last week. His burrito last week was somewhere between the Penn State offense and the Florida State offense from September 26th.
Can you believe it…it is already Week Five!
It is near half-way through the college football season….and definitely half-way through your fantasy league regular season.
I mean, it was like, gee…only a few hours ago when the first game kicked off! My, how times flies…it’s like you just opened that first beer….grilled your first rib….deep fried your first turkey….drafted that first bust of a player…. Read the rest of this entry →
