Thursday, December 24th, 2009

Toby-GerhartHe plays oufielder for a perennial nationally-ranked baseball program….he rushed for the most yards in California high school football history….he took 21 credit hours of classes this fall semester….he darn near won the Heisman Trophy….

That “he” is Stanford running back Toby Gerhart….who also is our Fantasy College Blitz – Pac 10 Fantasy Player of the Year….repeating the same honor from last season (FCB 2008 Pac 10 Fantasy Player of the Year).

Gerhart (photo, thanks SportsIllustrated.com), a senior from Norco, CA (Norco HS) led the Cardinal with over 1500 yards rushing and 23 rushing TDs (stats quoted are through November 21st games).  Gerhart, who also had nearly 200 yards receiving, was the top fantasy running back, nationally, in 2009.

PAC 10 Bookends: The Best is the Best

Friday, September 25th, 2009

JoeMcKnight-1Last week proved to be very exciting as USC suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of the Washington Huskies.  We profiled this game last week as our PAC 10 game of the week and it definitely lived up to the hype.  There wasn’t a lot of scoring in this one but you have to be happy with Joe McKnight’s (pictured left, thanks Icon SMI) performance- 100 yards and a touchdown.  For Washington, Jake Locker had 237 yards on the air and rushed for a touchdown.  Locker is looking like the top quarterback in the conference with 811 yards passing and 5 touchdowns.

Don’t forget about Kevin Riley from Cal though.  He has 698 yards and 5 touchdowns so far and plays with all-world running back Jahvid Best (we’ll get to him in a second).  Cal plays Oregon this week in our PAC 10 game of the week. Read the rest of this entry →

Pac 10 Bookends: Trojans Men

Friday, September 18th, 2009

Pac 10 logoJust as we figured, USC has reloaded and started off hot.  They look again like the dominant team in the PAC 10.  We are very early into the season, so we will be keeping an eye on USC and let you know who from the Trojans can put up some big numbers for fantasy players.  Also, Oregon looks to be in trouble.  With LaGarette Blount out for the season, they will rely on a committee of running backs.  Jeremiah Masoli will see an increase in production and remains a solid start.  He’s passed for 284 yards (no passing touchdowns) and run for 98 yards and two touchdowns. Oregon plays 18th ranked Utah this week.

My work here is almost done and the only thing left is to wrap up the rest of the Pac 10.  After covering the main position players, we find ourselves hard pressed to find much at TE, D/ST and Kicker from this conference.   Well…I should say hard pressed except for possibly the best TE in all of fantasy college football.

Catching Up with the Pac 10 Wide Receivers

As rich as the RB position is for the Pac 10, the WRs are its exact opposite.  It’s telling when the top 2 QBs in this conference are known for the damage they can do with their legs.  The best passing offense is USC, who spreads the ball so well.  There are a couple of potential draftees and a few upside guys here but outside that, look elsewhere for your receivers…
