A conservative game plan in the first half kept Florida QB Tim Tebow out of harm’s way, but he later opened-up the throttle on his derring-do, leading his No.1-ranked Gators past No. 4 LSU, 13-3. While Florida’s offense kept a low profile, it was the stingy Gators “D” that made the difference in shutting down LSU at Death Valley.
After the game, Tebow talked with ESPN about the game, his team and his health.
One of the things I keep bringing up with my FCB colleagues and fantasy players is that, in college football, experience on the offensive line is so important to a college offense.
In college football, having an offensive line with experience is a huge advantage. Unlike pro football, where more training time is allowed, and, no one has to study for their upcoming Differential Integral Remedial Calculus exam….colleges do not have the time to mold a cohesive offensive line before the start of the season. Can you believe it…the 2009 season is only days away!
While you are getting your satellite adjusted, your new HD TV installed, and your fixin’s together for your first tailgate of the season…oh, yes, and that fantasy team of yours….we have been busy slaving away on which QBs you should start or sit for opening week.
In the first few weeks of the season, many of the best programs are playing much weaker opponents.
In most cases, when Big Time BCS Program plays Goatlips State, for example….it means a lot of fifth-stringers, scout-team players, and “players with no name on jersey” are going to see some playing time. This means your star fantasy player will see less production, as he will be pulled as early as the second quarter.
Goatlips State may mean an easy win for Big Time BCS Program….but could wreck your fantasy team in the process.
In this edition, we will discuss whether you should play QBs who face weak opposition in their openers….players like Florida QB Tim Tebow (photo, thanks IconSMI) Read the rest of this entry →
First, on a nationally-televised game carried on Versus network, BYU QB Max Hall (pictured, thanks IconSMI) threw 7 TD passes, and, the Cougar defense waylaid UCLA in a 59-0 christening at LaVel Edwards Stadium in Provo. So much for the Bruins defense, and the Norm Chow-led Bruin offense.
Later that night, New Mexico held off a potent Arizona attack in a 36-28 win in Albuquerque. Meanwhile, earlier in the day, TCU handled Stanford 31-14 at Amon Carter Stadium in Fort Worth.
But, the stunner came late Saturday night/early Sunday morning…as UNLV rallied from a late 10-point defecit to knock off ranked Arizona State 23-20 in overtime at Tempe.

Thank you, Matt Grothe, for making me look like a fool…
South Florida QB Matt Grothe (pictured, thanks IconSMI ) again humbles your QB prognosticator. Not only did the Bulls QB find a way to beat this writer’s alma-mater, again…he proved me doubly wrong by throwing for 350+ yards and a couple of TDs in the Bulls 31-24 overtime win at UCF.
So much for not playing Grothe last week…oh well.
Hopefully Mr. Grothe does not make me look foolish this week, for I am telling everyone to play him this week when the Bulls host Todd Reesing (play him, too) and the Kansas Jayhawks in an interesting inter-sectional match-up this Friday night.
