FCB FANTASY PLAYER OF THE WEEK….Colin Kaepernick, QB, Nevada

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

ColinKaepernickEarlier this season, a few were wondering when our Week Eight Fantasy Player of the Week would finally start producing.

Well, he produced yesterday.  Big Time.

Our Fantasy College Blitz Fantasy Player of the Week, Nevada QB Colin Kaepernick (photo, thanks IconSMI), has finally shaken off all of his early season doldrums…and opened up the Pistol offense on Idaho.

In Nevada’s 70-45 win over their visitors from the Gem State, the rangy QB from Turlock, CA vandalized the Vandals defense, rushing for 230 yards and 4 TDs.  And, proving that he is more than just someone with long legs, Kaepernick also threw for another 170 yards and 2 TDs.

Note that Idaho, coming into the game at Nevada, was 6-1….and enjoying one of its better seasons in many years.

76904540SD004_MARSHALL_V_HOCan you believe it….already Week Eight!

The 2009 college football season, for the fantasy crowd, is almost over.  Most of your leagues are in the home stretch…fighting for playoff spots…upsetting the playoff apple-cart for your rivals….trying to keep out of the cellar….wondering why your star player early in the season has now turned into Buster McBust

In dealing with college football QBs for Fantasy College Blitz, I have noticed that, at this time of the season, the QB position seems to produce fewer numbers….especially those at the BCS-level schools.   Generally, the QBs at the BCS-level schools are playing their conference foes, and, their tougher ones as the season progresses.

Fortunately, some QBs are immune to the “end of season doldrums”.  One of them, Houston QB Case Keenum (photo, thanks Scout.com), seems to put up better numbers playing against his conference foes. Read the rest of this entry →

95208110865_OU_v_Texas_A&MAlthough the game has lost some of its luster as the 2009 season has progressed, the annual Red River Shootout between Texas and Oklahoma should be another interesting 60 minutes of football this coming Saturday.

Even with Oklahoma already recording two losses this season (both by one point to two ranked teams), the Sooners still have a say on the Big XII championship.  Knocking off undefeated, #2 ranked Texas could salvage a somewhat disappointing season for the school north of the Red River.  Also, a healthier Sam Bradford (photo, thanks IconSMI) would boost OU’s chances greatly.

Meanwhile, Texas is in the drivers seat to a Big XII championship, and, a slot in the BCS National Championship game.  Led by Heisman hopeful QB Colt McCoy and a stellar defense, the Longhorns hope to duplicate the success they had last season in their 45-35 win over the Sooners.

However, as big as this game will be, I would hold off playing either QB this weekend…here is why (see below)…. Read the rest of this entry →

ColinKaepernickWelcome Back, Kaepernick!

Because I ran out of clever things to say beyond mis-quoting titles of 70′s TV shows, we at FCB welcome the return of Nevada QB Colin Kaepernick (photo, thanks IconSMI) after an early season of sluggish stats and no wins.

However, in Nevada’s 63-28 win over UNLV this past weekend, Kaepernick and his Wolf Pack ran all over the Rebels, with the rangy signal-caller rushing for over 170 yards and 2 TDs….and the entire Wolf Pack team rushing for over 550 yards…at over 10 yards per carry.

Nevada’s tough early schedule, with games at Notre Dame, at an improving Colorado State, and hosting Missouri…the Nevada offense just could not get going full-bore.  Now, with an easier non-conference opponent, and WAC play beginning, look for Kaepernick and Nevada to return to their status as fantasy-elite.

Now, on to the Start/Sit for Week Six…. Read the rest of this entry →

TimTebowInjuries…they stink to high purgatory…and, unfortunately, are part of the game of football.

On Saturday night in Lexington, Kentucky, the college football world watched Florida QB Tim Tebow (photo, thanks IconSMI) take a nasty hit on the back of his head when he hit a teammate’s leg while being sacked by a Wildcat defender.  A few minutes later, the college football world learned what Superman had been eating for the last 24 hours, as he hurled a few times while being carted to a waiting ambulance for transport to a hospital.

As gruesome as this all sounds, it looks like Tebow will be OK, and should be ready to play in two weeks when the Gators visit Death Valley to play LSU.  He should be over the effects of the concussion he suffered at Kentucky.

Meanwhile, another top QB was not as fortunate.

Baylor sophomore phenom Robert Griffin suffered a season-ending ACL injury during the Bears trouncing of Northwestern State (LA).  Although Griffin saw more action in the game after the injury took place, an MRI exposed an ACL tear, putting the dual-threat QB out of action for the rest of 2009.  College football, especially the fantasy element, will miss Griffin….and all wish him a speedy recovery and a return in 2010.
