NFL DRAFT…SMALL SCHOOL GEMS…Rashad Jennings, Liberty

Friday, April 24th, 2009

rashad-jenningsDaniel Freer, Fantasy College Blitz “Minister of the Non-BCS”, continues profiling some of the top NFL picks that come from schools Divison I-FCS and lower.

One thing consistent with most NFL Drafts, there will always be a good RBs available from schools outside the Division I-FCS.

Gosh, arguably the greatest RB in NFL history, the late Walter Payton, played his college football at Jackson State, then a Division II school.

Now, not saying that Liberty University RB Rashad Jennings (photo, thanks The Sports Network) is going to be the next    “Sweetness”…however, do not be surprised he ends up playing quite a bit…maybe even starting…for your favorite team in 2009.

Yes, Jennings is that good. Read the rest of this entry →

NFL DRAFT…SMALL SCHOOL GEMS…A Trio Of Wildcats

Monday, April 20th, 2009

bernardscottFantasy College Blitz  “Minister of the Non-BCS” Daniel Freer, continues his series profiling the NFL Draft prospects from the Non-Division I-FBS schools.

Every year, there are a number of schools that produce multiple NFL Draft picks.

You probably already are familiar with some of those schools…schools like Florida, USC, Oklahoma, Texas, LSU, Abilene Christian

Wait……What?

Abilene Christian?

Uh, well…okay….maybe not on an annual basis, but for the 2009 NFL Draft, you just may hear “Abilene Christian” mentioned a few times while you are watching the draft coverage.  And, possibly,  after reading this article…you will be a little familiar with Wildcat RB Bernard Scott (photo, thanks ACUSports) before his name is called. NFL DRAFT…SMALL SCHOOL GEMS…QB Nathan Brown, Central Arkansas

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

nathanbrownMore in the continuing series of previews on NFL Draft prospects from schools in Division I-FCS and below…from Fantasy College Blitz’s “Minister of the Non-BCS”, Daniel Freer.

Throughout the history of the National Football League, many of the top QBs played their college football at the prime-time, big-time, football powers.

However, quite a few of the all-time top NFL QBs have played at the lesser-known smaller schools…or schools that were, at the time, not a major football program.

Four-time Super Bowl winning Pittsburgh Steelers  QB Terry Bradshaw honed his skills at Louisiana Tech, then a Division II school.  Legendary Baltimore Colts QB Johnny Unitas played his college ball at Louisville…then a NAIA school.  Former Cincinnati Bengals star QB Ken Anderson spent his undergraduate days at Division III Augustana College

And, although not an “all-time great”, former Seattle Seahawks QB Dave Kreig (who did have some good seasons in the 1980′s) played at tiny Division III Milton College…a college so obscure that it soon closed its doors after Kreig left.

Can Central Arkansas QB, Nathan Brown, (photo, thanks UCA Sports), join the list of elite NFL QBs from the non-traditional powers? Read the rest of this entry →

NFL DRAFT…SMALL SCHOOL GEMS…WR Ramses Barden, Cal-Poly

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

Over the next few weeks leading up to the NFL Draft, Daniel FreerFantasy College Blitz’s “Minister of the Non-BCS”…will take a look at some of the small school prospects (those players at I-FCS level or lower schools) for the upcoming NFL Draft.  Then, hopefully, on Draft Day, you will not be going “duh….what?” when your favorite team(s) pick a player from a school you have never heard of before.

Those who follow college football probably heard of Cal-Poly WR Ramses Barden (video from AthletixNation) late in the 2008 season, when he caught an overtime TD pass at Wisconsin…which put his Mustangs in the lead over the Badgers. Check out this highlight video and my analysis after the jump. Read the rest of this entry →
