Pittsburgh Panthers RB Dion Lewis (Icon SMI)

  1. Ryan Williams – VaTech at Maryland
  2. Dion Lewis – Pitt vs. Notre Dame (ND defense is just average, don’t be scared off by the name)
  3. Jacquizz Rodgers – Oreg St vs. Wash
  4. Darius Marshall – Marsh vs. Southern Miss
  5. Ryan Matthews – Fresno at Nevada (is now the #1 fantasy RB)
  6. Toby Gerhart – Stanford vs. USC (tough matchup for Gerhart but still a starter)
  7. Mark Ingram – Alabama vs. Miss St
  8. Noel Devine – WVU at Cincy (questionable with ankle injury, risky start this week)

FROM THE SHOTGUN….Week Six QB Start/Sit

ColinKaepernickWelcome Back, Kaepernick!

Because I ran out of clever things to say beyond mis-quoting titles of 70′s TV shows, we at FCB welcome the return of Nevada QB Colin Kaepernick (photo, thanks IconSMI) after an early season of sluggish stats and no wins.

However, in Nevada’s 63-28 win over UNLV this past weekend, Kaepernick and his Wolf Pack ran all over the Rebels, with the rangy signal-caller rushing for over 170 yards and 2 TDs….and the entire Wolf Pack team rushing for over 550 yards…at over 10 yards per carry.

Nevada’s tough early schedule, with games at Notre Dame, at an improving Colorado State, and hosting Missouri…the Nevada offense just could not get going full-bore.  Now, with an easier non-conference opponent, and WAC play beginning, look for Kaepernick and Nevada to return to their status as fantasy-elite.

FROM THE SHOTGUN…Week 4 QB Start/Sit

MattGrotheUnfortunately, in football, injuries are common….

Sometimes too common.

This past Saturday, South Florida QB Matt Grothe was lost for the season as he tore the ACL in his left knee during the first half of the Bulls 59-0 win over Charleston Southern…thus ending the collegiate career of the possible four year starting QB.

Grothe led the Bulls to national prominence with his ability to run and pass, and, had the uncanny knack to make big plays when necessary.  He was one of the top QBs in Big East during his career….including fantasy…and led the Bulls to three consecutive bowl games.

He also went 3-0 vs my alma-mater (UCF)…OK maybe that part was not so good, however, Grothe did earn my respect….and the Bulls program would not have come so far along, so soon, if it was not for Grothe.

Reportedly the Bulls will replace Grothe as starting QB with B.J. Daniels

FROM THE SHOTGUN – 2009 QBs Week One Start/Sit

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

TimTebowCan you believe it…the 2009 season is only days away!

While you are getting your satellite adjusted, your new HD TV installed, and your fixin’s together for your first tailgate of the season…oh, yes, and that fantasy team of yours….we have been busy slaving away on which QBs you should start or sit for opening week.

In the first few weeks of the season, many of the best programs are playing much weaker opponents.

In most cases, when Big Time BCS Program plays Goatlips State, for example….it means a lot of fifth-stringers, scout-team players, and “players with no name on jersey” are going to see some playing time.  This means your star fantasy player will see less production, as he will be pulled as early as the second quarter.

Goatlips State may mean an easy win for Big Time BCS Program….but could wreck your fantasy team in the process.

In this edition, we will discuss whether you should play QBs who face weak opposition in their openers….players like Florida QB Tim Tebow (photo, thanks IconSMI) Read the rest of this entry →

FROM THE SHOTGUN…Week Two QB Prime Time/Pine Time

Monday, September 1st, 2008

Is everybody happy?  College Football 2008 is now in full swing.

Of course, some of your fantasy teams did quite well…others are wondering “what happened to Tim Tebow?” (warned ya about those early non-conference cream-puff games).

Be on the lookout again this week with star QBs playing vanilla opponents, although there will be fewer of those type of games this week.

In fact, you should see some competitive QB matchups, including BYUs Max Hall (pictured, thanks IconSMI ) facing Washington and Husky QB Jake Locker (both you should play this week).

And, more QB PRIME TIME PLAYERS to note…
