Senior Bowl Day Four – South Practice Report

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

Basic walkthroughs allows very few to show off on last full day of practice.

In contrast to yesterday’s full pads, full go practice that lasted just over two hours, today’s practice for the south was not much more then some simple walkthroughs on special teams and a few opportunities during some 2 minute drills and very brief 5 v 7 period which then turned into an 11 v 11 period to close out the day.

Believe it or not, Tim Tebow actually looked the best out of the QB corps today. The competition did not really show any true desire to perform which could have been more due to the extra laid back feel during today’s practice. Yesterday, the Miami Dolphin coaches were hot and fierce. Today, they were more even keeled and mild mannered. Regardless of what it was, Tebow (however still nothing to really get super excited about), did end up looking the sharpest out there. Read the rest of this entry →

Gators beat Bearcats in Sugar Bowl, Tebow closes out career with a bang,

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

Happy New Year! May you make it happy, healthy and prosperous.

Ironic that as a new decade rolls in we witness the possible player of the previous decade Tim Tebow create quite the exclamation point for his career.

In the Florida Gators Sugar Bowl 51-24 throttling of the Cincinnati Bearcats on January 1,  Tebow threw for a career high of 482 yards and three TDs, then ran for another TD and enough yards to eclipse 500 yards of total offense. Games like that truly happen only once in a blue moon, and I wonder if this week’s version may have had a little orange aurora.

From Jeremy Fowler of the Orlando Sentinel, Tebow called prolific ending to a prolific career “better than a dream.”

“I didn’t see this coming as far as that many yards and everything,” Tebow said. “I knew we had a good game plan. I knew we were going to try to spread it out a little bit. We felt like that would be successful. And just coming into the game, we just were hitting and clicking so we kept going with it and ended up obviously throwing for a lot of yards.”

Many (including us shortly) will debate the NFL potential of the Tebow Child, and many have grown weary of the infinite media coverage that the Heisman Pundit calls Tebow Fatigue – fantasy players like to deal in facts, so let us reflect for a moment on the amazing career which can be argued was the finest college football player ever. 2009 SEC ALL-FANTASY TEAM

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

RyanMallettMichigan’s loss was surely Arkansas’ gain….

Most are familiar with the story of Arkansas QB Ryan Mallett, our Fantasy College Blitz – SEC Fantasy Player of the Year….how he started out at Michigan (starting some games as a true freshman), and left the program after a coaching change in Ann Arbor that contrasted to the style of play Mallett was familiar with.

Fortunately, another school was in the process of a coaching change….bringing in a coach (Bobby Petrino) with an offense suited to Mallett’s ability and talent.

Woooo Pig Soooie….a new Arkansas Razorback legend was born.

Mallett (photo, thanks IconSMI), a sophomore from Texarkana, TX (Texas HS), won our SEC FPOY honor by throwing for nearly 3200 yards and 28 TDs….also adding 2 rushing TDs (stats quoted are through November 21st games).

Joining Mallett on the SEC All-Fantasy Team are…. Read the rest of this entry →

SEC Bowl Preview: Gator to roll over Tide

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

How’s a little Heisman intrigue splashed in with the de facto college football National Championship game sound for this Saturday?

For the second year running, #1 plays #2 not in the BCS National Championship Game, but in the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta. It is must see TV for all college football fans – support your favorite team (or if suffering from Tebow Fatigue like most of the nation root for Alabama) and support your local eatery and get out of the house and enjoy what looks to be a battle of the Irresistible Force (Tim Tebow) against the Immovable Object (Terrance Cody).

I still think Colt McCoy gets the Heisman Trophy, but even I cannot deny that the SEC Bowl presents a great chance for either Mark Ingram (my #2) and Tim Tebow (my #4) to create many Heisman moments.

Quick tidbits of the national ranks

there are many other points where this is a matchup of Number One or Number Two

  • Bama Rush D #2 (77ypga) vs. Gator Rush O #6 (236ypg)
  • Bama Rush O #13 (213ypg)vs. Gator Rush D #8 (90ypga)
  • Bama Scoring D #2 vs. Gator Scoring O #10
  • Bama D yds/play #2 (3.87) vs. Gator O yds/play #7 (6.77)

Analysis, matchups and questions to ponder after the break.

FROM THE SHOTGUN….Week Eleven QB Start/Sit

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

TimTebowWith most fantasy leagues well into their playoffs, we will go in a slightly different direction with our From The Shotgun article this week.

By now, you have a pretty good idea whether your fantasy QBs are productive, or, are not (the latter is especially for those done with 2009 and already planning for 2010).

However, some of your top fantasy QBs may be walking into one of those late-season land-mine games….maybe not so  much as a loss for their real teams, but, one of those games where the score is closer than expected….and the stats page does not look so pretty.

Even Florida QB Tim Tebow (photo, thanks IconSMI) is not a safe lock to play this week, as his Gators travel to South Carolina… Read the rest of this entry →
