A conservative game plan in the first half kept Florida QB Tim Tebow out of harm’s way, but he later opened-up the throttle on his derring-do, leading his No.1-ranked Gators past No. 4 LSU, 13-3. While Florida’s offense kept a low profile, it was the stingy Gators “D” that made the difference in shutting down LSU at Death Valley.
After the game, Tebow talked with ESPN about the game, his team and his health.
Because I ran out of clever things to say beyond mis-quoting titles of 70′s TV shows, we at FCB welcome the return of Nevada QB Colin Kaepernick (photo, thanks IconSMI) after an early season of sluggish stats and no wins.
However, in Nevada’s 63-28 win over UNLV this past weekend, Kaepernick and his Wolf Pack ran all over the Rebels, with the rangy signal-caller rushing for over 170 yards and 2 TDs….and the entire Wolf Pack team rushing for over 550 yards…at over 10 yards per carry.
Nevada’s tough early schedule, with games at Notre Dame, at an improving Colorado State, and hosting Missouri…the Nevada offense just could not get going full-bore. Now, with an easier non-conference opponent, and WAC play beginning, look for Kaepernick and Nevada to return to their status as fantasy-elite.
While Vince Mullins is away at sea, Daniel Freer will prepare this morning’s Fantasy College Blitz Saturday Morning Breakfast Burrito. Hopefully, he will make a better burrito than last week. His burrito last week was somewhere between the Penn State offense and the Florida State offense from September 26th.
Can you believe it…it is already Week Five!
It is near half-way through the college football season….and definitely half-way through your fantasy league regular season.
I mean, it was like, gee…only a few hours ago when the first game kicked off! My, how times flies…it’s like you just opened that first beer….grilled your first rib….deep fried your first turkey….drafted that first bust of a player…. Read the rest of this entry →
Injuries…they stink to high purgatory…and, unfortunately, are part of the game of football.
On Saturday night in Lexington, Kentucky, the college football world watched Florida QB TimTebow (photo, thanks IconSMI) take a nasty hit on the back of his head when he hit a teammate’s leg while being sacked by a Wildcat defender. A few minutes later, the college football world learned what Superman had been eating for the last 24 hours, as he hurled a few times while being carted to a waiting ambulance for transport to a hospital.
As gruesome as this all sounds, it looks like Tebow will be OK, and should be ready to play in two weeks when the Gators visit Death Valley to play LSU. He should be over the effects of the concussion he suffered at Kentucky.
Meanwhile, another top QB was not as fortunate.
Baylor sophomore phenom Robert Griffin suffered a season-ending ACL injury during the Bears trouncing of Northwestern State (LA). Although Griffin saw more action in the game after the injury took place, an MRI exposed an ACL tear, putting the dual-threat QB out of action for the rest of 2009. College football, especially the fantasy element, will miss Griffin….and all wish him a speedy recovery and a return in 2010. Read the rest of this entry →
Florida QB Tim Tebow, on the ground after taking a big hit in Q3 vs. Kentucky.
Unless you live under a rock, you know that Florida QB Tim Tebow was knocked out of Florida’s 41-7 victory against Kentucky after a hard shot to the head in the third quarter, and taken by ambulance to a hospital.
Currently it’s unknown how this hit will affect his status for the Gators’ matchup against LSU in two weeks. Nor is it clear how it will affect the battle for the Heisman Trophy.
