FANTASY UNWIND…Because You Can Only Think Fantasy For 23 Hours, 55 Minutes Per Day

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

on_further_reviewThis time of the year, most of us are busy trying to figure out the difference between the 58th best RB and the 59th best RB in college football.  A few hours earlier, you made that tough decision on who was the 59th best RB.

Pre-draft Fantasy Football is really fun, but at times can be quite stressful…especially when that “other vocation” (a.k.a “work”) interferes with your fantasy pursuit….

“Boss, I will get back to the Gold Brick account in a few minutes…I have to do a quick analysis of the Tebow project…”

Pray your boss is not a Florida State Seminole….or the commissioner of your fantasy league.

So, take a few minutes…relax…and enjoy this quick excerpt.  Think of it as the condensed form of the Uncle John’s Bathroom Reader for the Fantasy Player.  However, you do not need to sit on the throne with your laptop or notebook while reading.

Because, you have always wondered if that ref viewing the instant replay video is really watching the replay…or his favorite porn flick… Read the rest of this entry →

QUICK HITS….An Early Look At The Top QBs For 2009

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

9528051_colorado_st_v_houstonAs we get closer to the start of the 2009 college football season…just over three months away…it is never too early to talk about the top signal-callers heading into the new season.

Will one, or both, of the past two Heisman Trophy winners (Tim Tebow, Sam Bradford) continue to pile up stats?  Will a less-familiar name (Houston QB Case Keenum…pictured…photo, thanks IconSports) shake up the college football and fantasy establishment?  Will your humble fantasy analyst look like a genius again…or just smart?

Take a look at who I believe will be the top fantasy QBs heading into to 2009… Read the rest of this entry →

Heisman Winner? The Sooner You Read This…The Sooner You Know

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

Oklahoma QB Sam Bradford prepares for the Red River RivalryThe Heisman Trophy is one of the most talked about awards in all of sports.  It is often the cause for heavy debate amongst fans as they have completely different ideas of what this award is all about.

According to official Heisman Trophy website, the award goes to “the most outstanding college football player”.  This of course is little help as outstanding could mean a lot of different things.  Based on the history of the past Heisman winners, it is safe to say that ”outstanding” does not mean the player with the most gaudy stats.  Or the most dominant college player.  Or the player with the brightest NFL future.

In the world of the Heisman, the word ”outstanding” means which high profile, offensive skill player, from one of the Top 10ish teams possessing the best statistics to justify getting the award.  There have been a few exceptions over the years to the above statement but it required a lot of factors to fall into place.  Unfortunately, this means we can eliminate all the mid-major players like Nate Davis, MiQuale Lewis, Kellen Moore and Brian Johnson even though they play on a Top 25 team and lead their teams to big bowl games.

What I saw in Atlanta: Why Tebow should win Heisman

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

I wanted to pass the mike to an old friend Mick from San Antonio. We went to high school together and in fact I was his offensive coordinator to his head coaching spot for Powder Puff football, so the sport was always a connector for us. Facebook connected us recently and he put up a great post that I wanted to share. Enjoy the Gator influenced stylings from Mick.

(Editor’s note:  Ooops.  The post below was actually originally posted by Dick Gatsche  on Mudlizard’s Virtual Swamp.  My sincere apologies to him for the confusion – it was my fault for moving too fast to share some great writing, not Mick’s since he did cite the original URL. Thanks to the many passionate MudLizard users and Dick himself for alerting me – I wish we could have met under different circumstances – VM.)

Florida quarterback Tim TebowI saw the third quarter. I saw Tim Tebow get sacked. I saw Florida go 3 and out. I saw the Tide go 91 yards in workman like fashion. I saw a helpless UF defense. I saw Bama tie the game. I saw UF respond by missing their only FG of the season.

I saw Bama march again. I saw a UF team that was beat. I saw a defense with hands on hips gasping for breath getting absolutely trucked. I saw an Alabama team rolling downhill through Gator players. I saw the UF players give all that they had left to keep Bama out of the end zone. I saw the Tide take the lead heading into the 4th quarter. I saw the end of a championship dream.

No way could the UF defense recover from the extended pounding they had just endured. With two DTs out there was simply no reserve left to call upon to stem the Tide. All that had been claimed pregame by the Crimson and White faithful about how their lines would wear UF down and control the game had come true. There was no hope.

And then things changed. I saw Tim Tebow rally his offensive teammates and take them down the field. Run after run after run after run after run and they had Bama on their heels at their own 27. A throw a run and a throw and Tim has UF on the doorstep. Two more runs and Demps is leaping in the endzone. Florida has wrested the lead away and hope is reborn, dreams live again. Future Pros: Tim Tebow

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

Fantasy College Blitz has provided our take on the players in the NFL draft since Day One. Rather than waiting until next April, we begin a new series entitled Future Pros . We will analyze players that are likely in the crop of potential draftees for 2009.

This opening article will begin at the top by breaking down Mr. Heisman himself, Tim Tebow . I know a few of you are thinking I’m taking the lay-up with this selection. However, I believe many will be surprised with my final determination on Tebow.

Before we even get into Tebow’s body of work, let’s check on the track record of the man who created this one man Fantasy machine. Urban Meyer made his mark at Bowling Green, where he coached a QB by the name of Josh Harris . As a full time starter in the 2001 season, Josh Harris threw for 2,425 yards with 19 TD’s. He also ran for 737 yards and 20 TD’s. To some degree, he was a Tebow Jr.
