Before you make the “you can’t spell Outback without UT” joke (ed. note Chris graduated from Rocky Top), I should probably warn you that you’re thinking of the Citrus Bowl. (Also, you can spell Outback without UT unless you’re talking about 2007 and 2008.)
However, you’re also slighting the majesty of the Hall of Fame Bowl. If you’ve long forgotten about the Hall of Fame Bowl, you’re not alone. Regardless, the Outback has generally done a pretty good job getting name programs that have slid a bit in for a nice New Year’s Day game that makes you regret your hangover just a little bit.
And if you, like most football fans on New Year’s Day, are ragingly hung over, rest assured that you won’t be missing a blighted thing if you miss this game, even if they pushed it from a Bloody Mary-ready 10 AM EST start to 1 PM EST this year. What a mess. If we can forget this game exists this year, so much the better.
Nonetheless, targets are identified and firing will commence after the jump. Read the rest of this entry →

Replacing Florida’s legendary QB Tim Tebow looked like a daunting task for the Gators, whose offense has struggled at times during the 2010 season.
This past Saturday, the Gators may have found their Tebow replacement. Sort of.
Florida QB/RB/WR/Wildcat/Whatever, Trey Burton, is our Fantasy College Blitz Fantasy Player of the Week for Week Four.
In the Gators 48-13 win over Kentucky, Burton (photo, thanks AP/John Raoux), a true freshman from Vencie, FL (Venice HS), scored 6 TDs (5 rushing, 1 receiving) while operating mostly as the QB in the Wildcat formation. Burton rushed for 40 yards, passed for 42 yards, and had 37 receiving yards against the (pardon the pun) Wildcats.

Dear Coach Meyer,
Congratulations on your second National Championship in the past three years as once again you clearly out-coached your opponent to win a game that most would say you were out-matched in. But this has been your trade-mark going back to your days at Utah and Bowling Green hasn’t it been?
This got me thinking and I believe it is time for you to take your game to the next level…the NFL. No doubt you leaving the comforts of Gainesville and going to the NFL will be viewed by the masses as a huge mistake. I have to ask the question – would it really be a mistake?
Why would it be a mistake? Is it because people don’t think you are good enough to coach in the NFL? No one is going to actually admit this but this is exactly the case. They are thinking Nick Saban, Bobby Petrino, Steve Spurrier, Butch Davis, Dennis Erickson, Mike Riley and even the great Lou Holtz all failed in their attempt to make the jump why does Urban Meyer think he is any better?
These are the same people that said your gimmicky offense would never work in the SEC, these are the same people that would have told you to not go to Utah because they haven’t won a conference title outright in 45 years and these are certainly the same people who would of said to stay at Notre Dame and not take over a Bowling Green lacking talent coming off a 2 win season.
If you look at it in a pure analytical sense of risks vs. rewards, what are the risks of jumping to the NFL now? Read the rest of this entry →

With pre-season camps finishing their first week, there already have been some issues affecting the QB situation at a few schools.
Of course, the big newsmaker was the injury to USC QB Matt Sanchez, which could affect the Trojans QB situation for the early part of the season.
Also, while there may be some losers…some will reap the benefits, possibly Cincinnati QB Dustin Grutza (pictured, thanks IconSMI ).
Here is a rundown of the affected QBs and schools.
